Latest Fishing Technology and Fishing Gears

Fish finder

Imagine you’re sitting out there on your fishing boat, you whip out a cool gadget you just bought from the Internet and after a couple of beeps, the device tells you that there is a school of fish some 3 meters or so away from you. Now, how cool can that be? It’s almost like an ultrasound scan of the sea or the lake that tells you exactly where the fish are.

But of course, this is not news because many different companies have developed their own ultrasound-like fish finding gadgets a long time ago. But Maptech’s new i3 module is the first of its kind. It’s the first ever touch screen, hi-resolution 3D Fishfinger. Yes, you can literally see the kind of fish that’s swimming around under your boat, in super clear images and in real time.

The i3 Touch Screen command on the fishing gadget can help you navigate the floor of the lake or sea with a radar, combine it with satellite communication and a weather report too.

This is an absolutely MUST for those who seriously looking into easy-fishing.

Monofilament fishing lines

There’s absolutely nothing worse than to have a fish on the hook and have the line snap! Well, no more snapping of fishing line with the latest development in monofilament fishing lines. Monofilament fishing lines come in a wide range of colors, sizes, thickness and strength. Although it’s stronger than some of the other more conventional fishing lines, they are cheaper. Monofilament fishing lines comes with special coating that keeps them from snapping easily. The only thing is that they don’t stretch as good as other types of fishing lines but they make up for it with their bulk and strength.

Monofilament fishing lines are also quite transparent over the water and hold knots pretty well.

Fashion is always cool too

Sometimes, cool has nothing to do with technology. It’s got more to do with the brain and ‘creativity’. If your husband, brother, or father is a fishing fanatic, you can always get them fashionable fishing gear with extra pockets to place their scissors and hooks. Perhaps the water-proof raincoat with fluorescent streak for night fishing, perhaps. And how about the water-proof watch? That’ll work perfectly. And how about an X-LOOP flash mirror polarized lens? Sunglasses for baking in the sun and raincoat for fishing in the rain are exceptionally cool gears we cannot ignore.

Let’s take the sunglasses as an example. The sunglasses not only remove the glare and improve the quality of what you see with your naked eye, you see the same scene in deep colors and contrasts. These sunglasses are developed specifically for fishing enthusiasts.

Infinity and HP Commit to ‘Visual Radio’ In The US

Infinity Broadcasting Corp. on Monday became the first U.S. broadcaster to commit to offering visual radio, a mobile-phone service that lets consumers listen to radio programming while simultaneously receiving artist-related information and interactive services.

The service, developed by Nokia Corp. and hosted by Hewlett-Packard Co., has been available only in Finland on Nokia handsets. Visual radio, however, was tested last summer in the United Kingdom and Singapore, where the service will be available this year, along with Germany and Sweden.

Visual radio allows subscribers to tune in to a local FM station with their mobile phone and simultaneously receive interactive information and graphics that are synchronized with the broadcast. Subscribers can view the title and artist of a song playing, check upcoming concert dates, purchase ring tones or other content from the artist and participate in radio station promotions.

“It’s all about enhancing the FM radio listening experience,” Debbie Brackeen, director of HP-Nokia global alliance, said from the National Association of Broadcasters convention in Las Vegas, Nev.

For radio stations, visual radio can increase listener loyalty and advertising revenue, HP said. Wireless carriers, on the other hand, are able to increase data-services usage and revenue.

HP, based in Palo Alto, Calif., provides billing services for broadcasters and content providers, and also sells and markets visual radio worldwide.

Traditionally, U.S. consumers have been slower in using data services on cellular phones than people in Asia and Europe.

“We have very high hopes for the market in the U.S., but the use of mobile handsets for listening to the radio is a lot more prevalent in Europe and Asia,” Brackeen said.

Infinity has become the first U.S. broadcaster to commit to offering the service, Brackeen said. The New York-based company, a division of Viacom Inc., operates 183 radio stations, with the majority in the nation’s top 50 markets, according to Infinity.

Financial details, as well as the timetable for delivering the new service, were not disclosed.

Visual radio today is available only through select Nokia models. The Finnish handset maker has said it would license the technology to competitors, but no timetable has been set. Nokia plans to ship 100 million handsets that support the service by the end of next year, Brackeen said.

Colombia signs up for XO laptop

About 65,000 children in the Caldas region of Colombia will soon be getting an XO laptop.

It has signed up to the One Laptop Per Child programme which puts cheap PCs into the hands of schoolchildren.

OLPC aims to boost the educational prospects of children in developing nations through technology.

Small towns and rural areas will get the first 15,000 XO laptops. The rest will be distributed over the next 18 months to the region’s larger towns.

Unveiling the deal Caldas’s Governor Mario Aristizabal said the region was “committed to giving each and every child of primary school age the same opportunity to access knowledge as the most privileged children in New York, Berlin or Tokyo”.

A separate deal with OLPC is being negotiated to buy XO laptops for schools in and around the state capital Manizales.

In a statement announcing the deal, OLPC founder Nicholas Negroponte said the organisation was starting to get “good traction” from countries keen to sign up and buy the distinctive green and white XO laptops in large numbers.

The OLPC’s declared aims in its early days was to create a machine that only cost $100 and sold in the millions. So far it has failed to deliver on both those objectives.

Currently each machine costs $188 and OLPC has sold about 600,000 of them.

In mid-May the OLPC group unveiled a deal with Microsoft to put the Windows XP operating system on the XO. Professor Negroponte said many nations wanted the laptops to run Windows before they signed up.

The project has also unveiled reference designs for a second generation machine, which will take the form of an e-book with twin touch screens.

Mr Negroponte said he hoped the device could be released in 2010 and cost $75.

Yahoo ‘listening’ to Microsoft

Yahoo has said Microsoft is no longer interested in buying the company but that it “makes sense” for the two to discuss working together.

In his fullest comments since Microsoft dropped its $47.5bn bid this month, Jerry Yang admitted a merger would have had a “tremendous amount of power”.

He insisted that it had been Microsoft which had broken off talks over price.

But Mr Yang said Yahoo was still “listening” to proposals being put forward by its rival.

Despite the end of bid talks, there has been continuing speculation that the duo will strike some kind of commercial arrangement to help them compete with Google in the internet search market.

Speaking at a conference in California, Mr Yang confirmed the two firms were continuing to discuss the prospect of “other partnerships”.

Microsoft is no longer interested in buying the company and they are discussing various other partnerships with us,” he said.

We definitely have to understand what they are proposing. They clearly have an interest in Yahoo and we need to understand more.”

Yahoo always argued that Microsoft’s offer undervalued its business but several shareholders, led by Carl Icahn, have criticised the firm for not having an alternative growth strategy.

Yahoo was forced to postpone its AGM earlier this month after Mr Icahn threatened to unseat the board, but Mr Yang said the firm did not feel “under siege”.
